Farm visit - field trials for drought resilience
Tuesday 8th July (1:00pm - 5:00pm)

Spend an afternoon visiting a local farm engaged in innovative trials in drought resilience:

The Meadows is Southern Farming Systems' trial site for ‘Long Term Trials of Drought Resilient Farming Practises in Victoria’ project, which is led by the University of Melbourne in collaboration with The University of Tasmania, Federation University, Birchip Cropping Group, Riverine Plains and Southern Farming Systems and receives funding from the Australian Government’s Future Drought Fund. The trials' purpose is to investigate innovative cropping, grazing, and mixed farming practises through the lens of drought resilience and associated risk management to determine a crop and fodder-based system that is more robust and profitable across a range of climatic conditions compared to the current pasture and crop rotations. The project includes agronomy, agricultural and social science researchers who will test, refine, and demonstrate the effectiveness of farming practices in a robust scientific manner, to underpin and drive widespread adoption by providing farmers with the confidence and information they need to try the practices themselves.
